Anna has taken to making little coos and gurgles, especially during diaper changing for some reason. She starts a running commentary as soon as I lay her on the changing pad. One of her recent vocalizations is "da, da, da, da..." Of course we become very animated and encouraging when we hear this one, pointing to Ben and saying "Daddy? Can you say Dadda?" Her response today was a big smile accompanied by the words "Da Bla". I like it. I think it's a keeper.
Of course we would love to catch this on video for you. But it's like tracking an exotic animal. As soon as the camera comes out, there is utter silence. Come to think of it, maybe we should start bringing the camera to church on Sunday morning.

Norris Lake
We had a break from the August heat on Sunday and decided to take advantage of it by visiting Norris Lake, a state park about 20 minutes from our house. It was a lovely hike.
The lake is the result of one of FDR's New Deal programs, the Norris Dam.
The dam is 1860 feet long and 260 feet high, so these pictures don't really do it justice unless you notice the size of the people in the first photo.
On one side of the dam is the lake, which I understand some of you have camped on.
On the other is a lovely meandering river.
It was a beautiful walk, and we can't wait to experience it again during the fall colors.

And we're off...
It seems time to give blogging a try. It turns out I'm a dabbler in these technological communication tools, and trust me, no one is more surprised than me. I've overcome newbie internet vertigo through the harsh teachers of MySpace and Facebook, and nothing makes you tougher than seeing a few layouts go kablooie or crashing some friend's computer.
So, consider yourself warned. You're in the hands of someone who can do little more than type, and not even always that.
It's just that there's always more people you want to talk to or hear from. Also, no one platform does everything you want it to do. Maybe someday something will. Google seems to be working hard at it. In the meantime, this blog is intended to give you photo updates of our family. I hope to link to another blog soon including more personal writing of my own, just because I'm going to write anyway and I might as well let the people who are inclined to read it do so. I won't burden you with that here. Just enjoy the photos.
And, I certainly welcome layout advice. As you can see, I am attempting to decorate this blog, and I am having mixed results with the backgrounds. There is probably a straight forward explanation for this, but I have already spent enough time on it for now.
